Scary something, Scared San

Nights aren't so happy for us since two days cuz' San keeps waking up every now and then, crying and scared. Yesterday night, she woke up with a start, came to me, hugged me tight, and slept with me that way. I wonder if it is her dreams. Or maybe she saw something scary on TV. I don't think so, cuz' we don't let her watch any such stuff. So, no clue! Today morning, I asked her about it.

San, what scares you at night?
It's the scary thing.
What thing?
That thing! (pointing towards the blinds on the patio door)
What? Where?
See, the scary thing is going out, and it'll come back again!
I don't see anything, San. What is it??
Scary, Mommy.
San, Mom and Dad are there to protect you.
But where are the angels? You said that they'll come to protect me!
They come at night when you're asleep.
But I didn't see them, Mommy!
Cuz' you were sleeping, San.
Okay.

I wonder what/who is bothering her at night! I wish I could find out.

  1. This is when their imagination peaks... and they experience fear. Google -- you'll find plenty of kids and moms posting about it! She may have seen shadows or the blinds move in the middle of the night. Tell her you'll put a guard toy/doggie/object etc. there so no one can bother her -- show her that you are checking the room to make sure no one or nothing is there. She may keep doing this for a while... then things will get better. It's just her age and active imagination. Limit news watching in front of her :-)
Hope all is well! We must talk, D! Love to San

    1. Thanks for the suggestions, Mimi. Yes, I do keep a guard toy (her teddy) for her and tell her that it'll protect her. Maybe it's her imagination. I'll try a couple of things and hope that she'll get better. Talk to you soon!

  2. @sainandi: thanks for the suggestion. i'm sure it'll work! :)

@Partha: she sleeps in our room as of now, but on a separate bed. we do have a night light for her. in the morning, she forgets that the night light was there, and tells us that you didn't switch it on. :)

@Marij: yes, i hope this is just another phase and will soon pass! :)

  3. children's imagination is so much more vivid than ours. With mine, I leave my room door open, and Jo's open and say "See, we're so close by." Usually we have a good bed time story too and a prayer. But despuet all that, sometmes she ends in our bed still! haha..
